Slaughterhouse 5

The Story of Dresden and Time Travel In Slaughterhouse Five Kurt Vonnegut tells the invoice on his experiences in the World War II onslaught of Dresden. The main character was a young infantry usher by the name of Billy Pilgrim, who was captured and kept in a Dresden slaughterhouse. He and other prisoners were forced to work at a factory producing a vitamin supplement for pregnant women. On February 13, 1945 on that point was a firebombing by Allied planes, the prisoners were among the few that survive because they were quiescence in an underground meat locker. After the wake up they see that the city had been destroyed, and then they are forced to nudge out the bodies of the bombing s victims. Throughout the novel it has a bit of a sci-fi feeling, Billy Pilgrim gets unstuck in time, and captured by aliens, however this is all just used as a tool by Vonnegut to rid himself of the rules of chronology. Billy Pilgrims bilgewater represents the story of Kurt Vonnegut who was captured but survived the destruction of Dresden, where 135,000 people were killed, a minute much bigger than that of Hiroshima and Nagasaki combined. I recommend this take hold non just because it is a classic war tale but because it it deals with many issues similar: warfare, fate & free will, and suffering.

Slaughterhouse-Five is or so a very specific part of war. Vonneguts book isnt about heroes of war like officers or Generals, its about men who wear downt wishing to be, and are in-equipped to be in the region of battle. People who have no idea of what they are doing like Billy Pilgrim, there is one scene where Billy is imbed behind enemy lines with no weapon, no jacket no helmet or any other equipment that potentially would save his life. The book is of the prisoners of war, people who have been stripped of any kind of delay over what happens to them: where they go and what they do. War in Slaughterhouse-Five is not romanticistic and full of glory, and all the good guys are fine, it is depressing and miserable, the death...
