Journal Entry of a Subordinate Group Member now is December 29, 1962, my family and I subscribe to moved from Pinar del Río, Cuba to Miami, Florida. My p bents indomitable to move to Miami because they said it would give us a view for a better life. We flew on a stupendous monotonous the day after Christmas. My gray-haireder brother, Franco, is not with us. He was send to Miami without us. I would not leave my parents. florists chrysanthemum` and Papa` state we will name Franco in Miami. We are staying with my Tia and Tio until my parents find work. Tia and Tio are my aunt and uncle; my mama` said I must use English because we are in the States. I am 15, so any move is a big deal. I will be attending a virgin school, and am scared and nervous, because I am shy and have a hard time making new friends. Mama` and Papa` tell me not to worry, everyone will like me. I wish Franco were with me. I miss him. Today is the seventh day living in Florida. I am having difficulty getting used to a different environment, although in that location are a large number of Latino`s living here. on that point are many people who speak fluent Spanish; it is the next best thing to living in Cuba. nutriment with Tia and Tio is fun, but I miss the old place, and my old friends. I cannot help wonder if I will receive my friends again, or my brother.

I have learned from my Uncle many areas in Miami and alone over Florida, which have a larger communicative population than English-speaking. In fact, quite a few neighborhoods are mostly or all Cuban, both residential and duty areas. I still find it hard to believe there is so many people who have left Cuba and derive to Miami. I asked my Papa`why these people come to America; Papa`explained the United States is the melting pot; people from all over the world come to America to have a better life.
