Construct and Support an Argument Against The Grain A few years ago I attended a business conference in Raleigh, NC showcasing the Whos Who of network marketing. The conference was amazing, filled with dynamic speakers and sacred stories of pack overcoming despite the odds. Yet, one speaker in bad-tempered made a profound statement that has stuck with me ever since. It was at that moment, six years ago, I made the conclusiveness to get out of the Navy and go into business for myself. Pursuing my MBA was not a difficult decision to make. Although most people seek higher education to advance their careers or perhaps because that is what society tells them they should do, my reasoning is a little different. I knew to ordain myself in the best position to succeed, I needed the experience necessary to run and operate a business. Although my close friends and family ache supported my decision all along, the majority of people I feel are quick to tell me why I shouldnt pursue my MBA.

Most people tell me my schedule is already all-encompassing and that it will be too difficult to go second to school. They are quick to point out that I am married with two children, already work full-time as a project manager, and run two businesses. Yet, when I talk to those people I am often reminded of a quote from Winston Churchill, A pessimist sees the bother in every opportunity, yet an optimist sees the opportunity in every impediment (CEO, 2009, p.186). However, the majority of people argue that because I am going away into business for myself, I dont need an MBA.
