Visit to a Familiar Time
The short tale “Antig iodin”, by Sheila Watson, revisits a somewhat familiar royalty scope constituted by the play of the same name write by Sophocles. The writer of this short story variation has established a new and fresh look at a few of the natures from the original play. The story is narrated in first someone by Haemon. He talks of Antigone and Ismene, giving hints to describe their image. It’s possible to see that Antigone is strong and her mind is unable to be changed, and Ismene tends to think differently than others. An example of this is when Ismene tends to think that the earth is round. though Haemon disagrees with this notion, he admires her for it. His love is for Antigone. However, he doesn’t appreciate the personal manner Antigone’s mind cannot be changed. He states at one point, “I expect that she understood things which Antigone is too proud to see.”
The character of Creon also appears exactly as in the play. He sleek over exhibits the same contrary attitude. In the story, he shows the same man alike(p) response to Antigone’s actions.



This time around, Antigone has buried a true sparrow in public grounds. Creon does not like this because he believes that no one owns an inch of the public ground to do so. Creon’s faithful patriotism for his state is shown once again, just like in the play by Sophocles.

We ar reminded once again of Sophocles’ famed characters in a short story with a similar theme. Characters are expanded upon and receive a fortified realness and credibility to them. The character of Haemon is shown in detail through his narration. Antigone’s stubborn character is reinforced, and a new side of Ismene is shown.
