Research has been conducted to investigate the family relationship between attachment style and trait forgiveness in a community sample of adults.The 242 participants each completed Bartholomew and Horowitzs Relationship Questionnaire (1991) and The Heartland Forgiveness Scale (Yamhure Thompson & Snyder,2003) was used to measure forgiveness. Results indicated that participants with a more secure attachment style were more kind of self, others and situations and participants with more fearful attachments styles were less forgiving of self, others and situations. Results were varied for participants with inattentive and dismissing attachment styles. Future studies would benefit from forgiveness-related interventions that may be in particular helpful for those with less secure adult attachment styles and bigger assessments of attachment in regards to carers and peers as well as those relationships investigated in this current study.
