Oedipus Rex Response

The move Oedipus Rex by Sophocles is a wonderfully written Greek tradgedy based on folklore and mythology. There ar almost as many interpretations of the meaning of this play as there are versions of it that charter been rewritten by other authors. Francis Fergusson and David Wiles both comment on the political aspects of Oedipus Rex and spend some time commenting on the let loose in particular (183). I feel that although Fergusson and Wiles choose varied words to describe was the utter is trying to say, that if you give rise bolt down to basics, they are both trying to say something extremely similar.
Fergusson describes a Sophoclean chorus as an important character or grouping personality, like an old Parliament or a prepare parson (237-238). When we think to the highest degree Parliament or the fix Minister, usually you think of a democratically elected establishment official. This is a person who you voted for to encounter you in government. They are to be your voice and fight on your behalf. This is what Fergusson is trying to explain about the chorus. He says that the chorus is basically the voice of Thebes throughout the play and that they quantify the feelings and emotions that the residents of the metropolis of Thebes is going through as the degree unfolds (238).
Wiles describes the chorus as a democratic mass control board (244).

Wiles says that on the way, the chorus provides a provisional verdict based on what happened in the previous scene (244). I think that this fits right along with Fergussons assessment of the chorus being the voice of the city of Thebes (238).
I agree with the description of the chorus that both Fergusson and Wiles have written for us. Although the two writers use different methods of...If you want to get a full essay, order it on our website: Orderessay
